RI Malang is part of the Indonesian government’s DAB+ Digital Radio program. This program is considered crucial for more efficient frequency management.
RRI Malang Co-Transmitter Yoyok Priyo explained the reasons for his agency’s involvement in the program. “This is one of the government’s programs to streamline frequencies,” he said.
He said the DAB+ system allows multiple stations to be broadcast through a single transmitter. This technology mimics the digital television model already implemented by the government.
According to Yoyok, one transmitter can accommodate up to 30 radio broadcast slots. Currently, around 15 private radio stations have joined the system.
He added that the radio frequency digitization process is still awaiting further government policy. “Whether it will be like digital television, I don’t know yet,” he explained.
RRI Malang has distributed several receivers to private radio stations as initial support. This step is being taken while awaiting official direction from the central government.
RRI Malang Public Relations Officer, Anandia Nana, explained the distribution process for equipment to private radio stations in Greater Malang. Nana stated that not all radio stations were immediately available due to technical constraints.
“Some streams can’t be accessed because the format is different,” he said.
He requested the original streaming address before the integration process could begin. Nana added that coordination was carried out directly with each radio station to ensure data accuracy. This process was considered easier than retrieving data from an external server.
RRI Malang is targeting the distribution of 100 radio units to various agencies and communities. Currently, around 12 private radio stations have received the units as a first step in promoting DAB+.
