As part of the ongoing layoffs at iHeartMedia, the “Rise & Grind Morning Show” has come to an end at Hip Hop “Power 99” WUSL Philadelphia.
Hosts Mikey Dredd and MuthaKnows have both announced their exits from the station as part of the layoff. Co-host Roxy Romeo remains and will move to another daypart at the station.
Mikey Dredd had been with WUSL for 30 years originally co-hosting nights on “The Hot Boyz” before moving to mornings in 2011. As part of a lengthy message on social media Dredd wrote, “After 30 unforgettable years at Power99, today I say goodbye to a place that became much more than just a job. From nights and mornings on air for 25 years, I’ve had the privilege of connecting not only with an incredible audience but also with friends and colleagues who became family. The deep relationships I’ve built, both inside and outside the station, have filled my life with true joy and love.”
Dredd concluded, “To all who joined me on this journey, whether behind the scenes, co-host, guest or listening in, thank you for making these decades so meaningful. I’m stepping into my next chapter with your love in my heart. Change is never easy, but with every new beginning comes opportunity. Thank you to my family at Power99 and to all those who tuned in through the decades. Your support and friendship have meant the world.Looking forward to what’s next, with gratitude and hopeful anticipation — stay tuned.”
Muthaknows wrote, “Who gets to come back from vacation and hear the dreaded ‘we’re going in a different direction’ speech? Yours truly, after 14.5 years of faithful service. Well, I guess that’s a wrap for Muthaknows on Power99. On the bright side, God’s got my back, and I’m stoked to see what’s next. Big thanks to all the awesome listeners and supporters who’ve had my back all these years.”
It is expected that Premiere Networks’ “The Breakfast Club” will be added in mornings at WUSL.
