Pair Of Virginia Sports AMs Sign-Off

ESPN Blacksburg 810 WPIN 610 WPLY RoanokeTwo Sports AMs in Southwestern Virginia have ceased broadcasting as their owners seek future operators.

Edward Baker’s Dublin Radio turned off “ESPN Blacksburg” 810 WPIN Dublin and its translators 93.1 W226AT Christiansburg covering Blacksburg and 97.1 W246CR Christiansburg covering Pulaski and Radford. The FCC filing states, “Radio Station WPIN-AM will go dark on September 30, 2025 as the licensee has determined that it is not economically prudent to continue broadcast operations. Efforts will commence to find a buyer for WPIN-AM. So in light of the foregoing, a silent status STA is requested for six months. Inasmuch as translators W226AT and W246C rebroadcast primary station WPIN-AM, a silent status STA is also being requested for six months for these stations.”

Up the road in Roanoke, Mel Wheeler Inc. is turning off 610 WPLY Roanoke. It’s “Sports Radio” programming will continue to be heard on its translator 101.1 W266CY Roanoke via 92.3 WXLK-HD3 and 1390 WPLI/107.5 W298CN Lynchburg. Both AMs will swap call letters. Wheeler’s FCC filing notes that they are “actively exploring all available options to try and preserve the Station’s signal, including via potential sale or donation.”
