After spending her entire career at Townsquare Media Evansville IN, morning co-host Melissa will be exiting the company and radio.
Originally using the on-air name ‘Melissa Awesome’, she joined Townsquare as an intern in 2008 and later became Promotions Director and rising the on-air ranks at Rock 103.1 WGBF-FM, moving up to afternoons in 2018. She would then move to mornings at WKDQ in April 2023 and has been teamed with Travis Sams since January 2024.
She told followers that she turned in her resignation this week and gave her two weeks notice stating, “When you’re in radio, it is such a character defining industry, and it becomes such an ingrained part of your identity that I don’t know how to not be Melissa on the Radio. It’s going to be an interesting journey for me, but I can tell you I’m ready for the next step. Radio is one of those careers that unless you’re in it, but there is no off switch for it. It kind of has to be a lifestyle. When I was younger and started in radio, I eat, slept and breathed it but I could. I have kids now and that changes things. Priorities are different and ultimately at the end of the day, let me be completely honest, I am suffering from major burnout. It’s just time for a new adventure.”
