Jason Rosam to launch new Westminster new radio station

A new student and community radio station is being prepared for launch in West London with Jason Rosam appointed to lead the project.

Jason will be station manager of Westminster Waves when it launches on the West London SSDAB multiplex in the New Year.

Westminster Waves will serve the University’s five campuses across Harrow and Central London, while also reaching surrounding communities. The station will be based primarily at the Harrow Campus, home to the School of Media and Communication, with additional studios across all campuses, including the Regent Street building next to BBC Broadcasting House.

Jason brings more than 25 years of radio experience across commercial broadcasting and 16 years at the BBC. In 2015, he founded Riverside Radio, originally known as Wandsworth Radio, establishing the station from scratch and developing it into a recognised community broadcaster serving South West London.

The new station is supported by funding from the Quintin Hogg Trust, which is being used to invest in facilities, training and long-term sustainability, with the aim of creating a service that supports both student learning and community engagement.

Jason said: “At Westminster, we have the resources, facilities and support to create something ambitious from day one. I’m excited to build a radio station that connects the University’s campuses and supports student learning.”

Alongside his role at the University of Westminster, Jason will continue lecturing in audio production at Goldsmiths, University of London. He will also remain on air as presenter of Riverside Breakfast with Jason Rosam and Battersea Power Station, broadcast Monday to Thursday from 7am to 10am on Riverside Radio.

Westminster Waves will focus on student-led programming, alongside music, current affairs, research-led content, employability features and community storytelling. The station plans to work closely with local charities, cultural organisations and civic partners across West London, providing opportunities for students, staff and local residents to contribute to output and gain hands-on broadcasting experience.
