As CD92.9 Signs-Off; 93X To Launch In Columbus

[membership level=”2,3″]
With WWCD Ltd.’s LMA to operate Alternative “CD 92.9” on Delmar Media’s 1580 WWCD/92.9 W225BS Columbus and 1550 WQCD/92.9 W225CM Delaware OH coming to an end today, Delmar will launch “93X” at midnight on Thursday, February 1.

With new WXGT calls incoming for WWCD, the new brand will position as “A Better Alternative” with a mix of “national alternative music, vintage alternative and mix of local bands.” Co-owner/President Brent Casagrande told WCMH-TV, “The first 10 days will consist of commercial-free music. 93X will be soliciting submissions by local artists for frequent airplay on the station. We will be adding a mix of locally produced programming on the air as well as visual components such as YouTube and TikTok exclusive content.” The WXGT call letters were used in Columbus by Rock leaning CHR “92X” on 92.3 from 1978 until 1990.

Delmar originally stated it would retain the “CD 92.9” branding before WWCD Ltd. owner Randy Malloy reminded them of their trademark and IP ownership.

The sign-off of WWCD tonight will mark the end of the on-air run of the brand after 33+ years. That frequency was sold to Ohio State University in 2010 at which time they began leasing Southeastern Ohio Broadcasting’s 102.5 Baltimore OH. Malloy, who was previously General Manager, acquired the intellectual property in 2017 after a dispute between Southeastern Ohio Broadcasting and Fun With Radio nearly led the station to be leased to Salem Media Group and flipped to Conservative Talk. That lease would come to an end in October 2020 with the 102.5 signal becoming operated by Radio One as Regional Mexican “La Grande 102.5” WWLG. That would be followed by the move to the two Delmar owned signals, which brings us to now, unless…
