Domain Insight 3/9: Early Possibilities On What May Be Next For 106.1 Philadelphia

As iHeartMedia’s 106.1 WISX Philadelphia enters its second day simulcasting CHR “Q102” WIOQ, we have some early possibilities on what may be next for the station.

Over the past two days, the rumor mill has churned hot and heavy with different scenarios being heard depending on who you talk to. Creating confusion within the market appears to be the goal right now.

In trying to make light of what I’ve heard it appears that the simulcast of WIOQ is iHeart seeing if they can get one of their competitors to blink first in a way that would help one of the company’s other Philadelphia stations. Audacy making a quick flip of CHR “96.5 TDY” WTDY-FM would help WIOQ, as would Radio One doing something with low rated Hip Hop “100.3 R&B and Hip Hop” WRNB-FM to boost “Power 99” WUSL eliminating their direct format competitors and changing the market dynamics.

To that end, three formats have come to the forefront in most of these conversations and there are domains to match. […]
