Cornwall’s Rewind Radio has delivered nearly 4,000 donated toys to children across the Duchy following its Christmas Toy Appeal this year.
The appeal, sponsored by Hawkins Motor Group, resulted in a total of 3,942 toys being collected after listeners and local businesses rallied behind the station’s call to support children facing poverty or disadvantage during the festive period.
Launched in October, the appeal saw 50 donation boxes placed in businesses across Cornwall, from Plymouth to Penzance, making it easy for people to take part. The scale of the response meant thousands of toys were quickly gathered and prepared for distribution to families who needed extra support at Christmas.
So far, donations have been shared with Children’s Hospice South West, Penhaligon’s Friends and the Children’s Ward at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. The toys have been used to support children and families at what can be a difficult time of year.
Richard Woods, Managing Director of Cornwall’s Rewind Radio, said: “The generosity shown by our listeners, local businesses and communities across Cornwall has been incredible. To collect nearly 4,000 toys will make a real difference to thousands of children this Christmas.”
Due to the volume of donations, the station has now reached the maximum number of toys its three partner charities are able to accept. However, a significant number of gifts are still waiting to be allocated, and the team is keen to ensure every toy reaches a child who needs it.
Cornwall’s Rewind Radio is now inviting applications from additional organisations and individuals who support children aged up to 18 facing financial difficulty or disadvantage. This includes registered charities, schools or pre-schools, and care workers. All applicants will need to provide verification details before collections are arranged.
