All Classical Radio Appoints Fred Child As President/CEO

Fred Child All Classical 88.9 KQAC PortlandAll Classical Radio” 88.9 KQAC Portland OR has announced the arrival of Fred Child as its new President/CEO.

Child joins KQAC after concluding his 25 year run as host and Senior Editor of American Public Media’s “Performance Today” at the end of October. Child has also held roles as host, Music Director and Director of Cultural Programming for WNYC New York, host of NPR’s Creators @ Carnegie, and the announcer for PBS’ Live From Lincoln Center. The Portland native also spent a decade hosting at Oregon Public Broadcasting.

Child said, “It is a joy to return to my hometown of Portland and an honor to join this beloved institution. All Classical Radio delivers essential culture as a free global resource, and does so with a team of uniquely talented personalities. Their creativity inspires me to envision what we can do together through our shared experience of great music, outstanding performances, and engaging storytelling.”

Board Chair Elaine Durst commented, “Fred has been a leader in connecting music-makers with music-lovers, and advancing access to the arts with a passion and approach that is absolutely infectious. He brings an ambitious strategic vision for our arts network, guided by a deep understanding of and appreciation for public media. We are proud to welcome him to All Classical Radio.”

Child will begin his new position on January 2. Current President/CEO Suzanne Nance announced her intent to step down at the end of the year back in June.
