The FCC will consider a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking regarding the current ownership caps at its September Open Meeting on September 30.
The Commission will be considering the 2022 Quadrennial Review of Media Ownership Rules. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr stated, “We will be seeking comment on the Local Radio Ownership Rule, which limits the total number of radio stations that may be commonly owned in a local market; the Local Television Rule, which limits a single entity from owning more than two television stations in the same local market; and the Dual Network Rule, which prohibits a merger between or among the Big Four broadcast networks.”
