Funkmaster Flex To Depart Hot 97

Funkmaster Flex Hot 97 WQHT New YorkAfter 33 years at MediaCo Hip Hop “Hot 97” WQHT New York, Funkmaster Flex will depart the station following his show on Monday, September 1.

Flex made the announcement on social media this afternoon writing, “THIS MONDAY LABOR DAY SEPTEMBER 1ST WITH BE MY LAST SHOW ON HOT97 AT 7PM! ALL THINGS COME TO AN END! END OF AN ERA THAT I ENJOYED VERY MUCH! I SUPER ENJOYED IT ALL! I WILL MAKE THE LAST SHOW A GREAT ONE! APPRECIATE EVERYONE WHO HAS SUPPORTED ME OVER THE YEARS!”

Flex originally joined WQHT in 1992 as a mixer and later took over the night shift when the station completed its move from Dance leaning Rhythmic CHR to Hip Hop the following year. He previously had stints as a mixer at “98.7 Kiss-FM” WRKS and 107.5 WBLS.

No word yet on Flex’s teased next destination.
