First Listen: How Christmas Radio Sounds in 2025

Of the stations that flipped to Christmas on (or before) November 1, the one I had to listen to first this year was WQFM (92 Mix FM) Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Last year, that station got a lot of attention by doing Classic Hits with a staff of format veterans trying to recreate the sound of CHR in the ’80s under consultant Gary Berkowitz. This year, it jumped into holiday music ahead of heritage AC WMGS (Magic 93).

Kash and Pharaoh G join BBC Radio 1Xtra Fridays

BBC Radio 1Xtra is refreshing its Friday night line-up from April, introducing new presenters Kash and Pharaoh G and moving some of its flagship shows.

The pair, who started out at Reprezent Radio and have regularly covered for 1Xtra across the schedule, will host a brand new show from Birmingham every Friday from 7pm to 9pm. Their programme will bring the latest in music and culture to kick-start the weekend.
Kash said she is “buzzing to bring that Friday night party energy to 1Xtra”, while Pharaoh G added that hosting a show on the network “has always been my dream” and promised “good energy and amazing music” each week.
Following their show, Kenny Allstar’s long-running Rap Show will move to 9pm to 11pm, rebranded simply as Kenny Allstar, continuing to spotlight new and emerging hip-hop talent from the UK and beyond.
A new late-night music show will also join the schedule from 11pm to 1am, with more details to be revealed early next year.
After seven years at 1Xtra, Tiffany Calver will leave the station in January, with CassKidd covering her slot until the new line-up launches. Tiffany said it had been “the greatest honour” to be part of the station and thanked listeners and artists for their support over the years.
Other schedule moves include The Rave Show with Jeremiah Asiamah shifting to Thursday nights from 11pm to 1am, and Throwback Party with Joelah and Keke moving to Wednesday nights.
Head of 1Xtra Dari Samuels said the refreshed line-up aims to “set the tone for the weekend” and “bring people together through music,” adding that Kash and Pharaoh G will bring “fresh energy and vibrancy to Friday nights.”
The new schedule takes effect from April 2026 and can be heard on DAB and BBC Sounds.
