Nicki Manley becomes Deputy Programme Director at Ireland’s Classic Hits

Ireland’s Classic Hits Radio has appointed Nicki Manley as its new Deputy Programme Director.
Nicki, who joined the station in 2023, currently presents Weekend Breakfast and will continue to do so alongside her new role.
She was recognised last year with a bronze award for Newcomer of the Year at the IMRO Radio Awards.
Before entering broadcasting full-time, Nicki worked in Human Resources, developing skills in leadership and organisation which she now brings to her expanding role in radio.
Nicki said she was delighted with the opportunity, adding: “Radio has always been a passion of mine and I’m looking forward to using my experience, both on air and in the world of HR, to support the team and continue developing the strong programming that Ireland’s Classic Hits Radio is known for.”
Kevin Branigan, CEO of Bay Broadcasting, said Nicki had already shown great commitment and creativity at the station. “She is the ideal fit for this role and will bring strong ideas and leadership to our programming team while continuing to engage listeners every weekend,” he said.
Nicki’s appointment strengthens the programming team at Ireland’s Classic Hits Radio, which continues to grow its profile across Ireland’s commercial radio landscape.

KISS and VOXI launch Halloween ‘Ex-Orcism’ campaign

KISS and VOXI Mobile are teaming up once again for a Halloween campaign that invites listeners to banish their exes in “The Ex-Orcism”.

Launching in mid-October, the cross-platform partnership will run on KISS Breakfast with Jordan and Perri and across social media, leading up to a live finale on Halloween.
Listeners will be asked to share stories about why their ex deserves to be “banished”, with entries shortlisted on air and voted for by the audience. Throughout the campaign, participants will be able to win prizes, including a holiday for the overall winner.
The finale will take place in a haunted manor house where ex-Love Island contestants will debate the finalists’ stories. Each relationship will be represented by a symbolic item, such as a hoodie or holiday souvenir, which will be dramatically cast into the fire as part of the “banishment”.
On 31 October, VOXI will take over Halloween on KISS with live reads, hourly credits and spotlights throughout the day.
KISS Content Director Rebecca Frank said the campaign “gives Halloween a uniquely KISS twist: bold, cheeky and impossible not to get involved in.”
Simon Kilby from Bauer Media added that the campaign shows how KISS creates “culturally relevant campaigns that really connect with our audience wherever they are.”

Esports, planes and solar power at Radio TechCon

Three of this year’s first confirmed sessions for Radio TechCon will explore what the radio and audio industry can learn from aviation, esports and solar power.

The UK’s annual technical and engineering conference for the radio and audio sector takes place on Tuesday 25 November at IET London: Savoy Place, with the first details of its 2025 programme now revealed.
In “From cockpits to studios”, pilot James Taylor will draw parallels between airline safety and broadcast environments, explaining how aviation’s crew resource management systems could help radio teams manage stress and maintain safety when under pressure.
“Esports and your career” will see the British Forces Broadcasting Service technology team share their experience of staging a major esports event, discussing the transferable skills between broadcasting and competitive gaming, and how engineers can future-proof their careers.
The third announced session, “Solar power plus”, features engineers from West Africa outlining a BBC project that is moving transmission sites in Ghana to solar power. The talk will cover how renewable technology is applied in tropical regions and how it might be adapted for the UK’s climate.
Ann Charles from organisers TBC Media said Radio TechCon offers “something to discover, learn and share for anyone who loves technology and audio.”
Radio TechCon 2025 is supported by Broadcast Bionics, Arqiva, Lawo, IPE, RCS, Preco, CGI, Telos Alliance, the IET, Ferncast and Radioplayer.
Tickets are now on sale with more information available at radiotechcon.com

Hits Radio and Magic Radio partners with Breast Cancer Now

Bauer Media is marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a partnership between tombola and Breast Cancer Now.

The initiative is being supported by well-known presenters from Hits Radio and Magic Radio, who will encourage listeners to regularly check their breasts and to think about “who they’re checking for.”
The campaign, which began with a day-long takeover on Friday 3 October, features presenters including Fleur East, Gemma Atkinson, Harriet Scott, Josie Gibson and Neev Spencer. They will share personal reflections and reminders across the day, highlighting the importance of early detection and self-checking.
Throughout October, the partnership continues on *Magic Afternoons with Neev Spencer* with listener-led moments, songs dedicated to loved ones, and reminders of Breast Cancer Now’s “TLC: Touch, Look, Check” message. These special features replace some ad breaks to give space for personal stories and awareness messages.
Comedian Katherine Ryan will also take part, voicing segments within her podcast *What’s My Age Again?*, while radio talent from both stations share social videos explaining who they’re checking for, inviting audiences to do the same.
Jenna Voyce, Commercial Director at Bauer Media, said the partnership connects “brands, talent and audiences in moments that truly matter,” adding that it will “inspire tangible action across the UK.”
Hannah Brotherton, Head of Brand at tombola, said the campaign was especially meaningful for their community. “Over half of our bingo players have been affected by breast cancer, either themselves or someone they love. The campaign is designed to reach people wherever they are and encourage early detection.”
Manveet Basra, from Breast Cancer Now, added: “Checking your breasts could save your life. It only takes a few minutes and there’s no right or wrong way to do it. This October, we want everyone to stop and ask: who are you checking for?”
