BBC Radio 2 to broadcast from Chelmsford ahead of festival

BBC Radio 2 presenters will broadcast from Chelmsford in the days leading up to Radio 2 in the Park, which takes place at Hylands Park from 5th to 7th September.

Scott Mills and Rylan Clark will record an edition of their Pop Top 10 podcast live in front of an audience at Chelmsford Theatre on Tuesday 2nd September, joined by a secret VIP guest.
The episode will be on BBC Sounds from Wednesday 3rd September and on Radio 2 on Saturday 6th September from 1am.
On Thursday 4th September, Jo Whiley will present a BBC Introducing special of her evening show from local venue Hot Box, with an intimate audience chosen by random draw open to over 18s only.
Jeremy Vine will host his Friday lunchtime programme from Chelmsford on 5th September, celebrating Essex with features including a visit to the county’s Cold War-era nuclear bunker, a look at Chelmsford’s place in radio history, and a trip to a local vineyard.
Helen Thomas, Head of Radio 2, said: “Radio 2 has always been proud to take the station out and about across the UK, and these events in Chelmsford in the run up to Radio 2 in the Park provide a wonderful extra opportunity to shine a spotlight on the city and for our star presenters to meet and connect with our listeners face-to-face.
“We are so excited to bring the full BBC Radio 2 experience to Essex in September and we can’t wait to celebrate with everyone.”

Happy Radio UK enters new partnership with Trafford Centre Manchester

Happy Radio UK and the Trafford Centre have entered a new agreement for the station to be the shopping centre’s official radio partner.

The partnership will see Happy Radio supporting the Manchester venue with coverage, promotion, live OBs, presenter appearances and social content supporting its calendar of events on site.
The collaboration aims to highlight the Trafford Centre’s range of activities, family events, and retail experiences, alongside new store launches and the centre’s new premium parking offer.
As part of the partnership, Happy Radio UK will showcase previews of upcoming attractions and help engage shoppers through on-site activity.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be teaming up with Trafford Centre to champion this iconic venue and its offering,” said co-founders Darren Proctor and Max Eden. “It’s an incredible destination known not only for its shopping but for being a real leisure destination.”

98FM confirms new schedule as Leanne Hanafin takes on daytime

98FM is making changes to its weekday line-up with new voices joining the station from later this month.
From Monday 25 August, Leanne Hanafin will present weekdays from 10am to 1pm, playing Dance and R&B anthems alongside guests and competitions. Leanne has been with 98FM since 2019, working on a variety of shows across the schedule.
Leanne said: “I am grateful for every opportunity I’ve had within 98FM and every person who has supported me and offered the most valuable words of advice in this industry… Now I’m ready for this new and exciting chapter, and I hope you’ll join me for it.”
From Monday 1 September, Andy Preston will host evenings from 7pm to 10pm, Monday to Thursday, and Sundays from 2pm to 6pm. Andy is well-known in Dublin radio for his music knowledge and presentation style.
Also starting on 25 August is a new on-street roving reporter role. Luke Thomas will be “the guy about town”, giving live updates from around Dublin, visiting local businesses, and sharing the Best of Dublin on-air.

BBC Asian Network launches vote for ultimate chart number one

BBC Asian Network is celebrating 15 years of The Official Asian Music Chart with a public vote to find the number one track.

The Ultimate Asian Music Chart No.1 Vote, launched in collaboration with The Official Charts Company, was announced this morning on Asian Network Breakfast. Voting opened at 8am today and will close at midday on 1st September.
Listeners can choose from the top 50 biggest-selling tracks that have reached number one since March 2010. Up to five votes can be cast online for the track they think deserves the title of Ultimate Asian Music Chart No.1.
A special live countdown show will air from 7am on Friday 12th September on Asian Network and BBC Sounds, with Asian Network DJs joined by special guests before revealing the winning song.
Ahmed Hussain, Head of Asian Network, said the chart has championed “the incredible talent and diversity of the British Asian and South Asian music scene” and invited listeners to join the celebration.
Martin Talbot, CEO of The Official Charts Company, added that the partnership reflects pride in platforming South Asian talent over the past 15 years.
