Radio X rebrands as Radio Y to promote television drama Yellowstone

Radio X is known as Radio Y today thanks to a partnership between Global and Paramount+ UK to promote television drama Yellowstone.

The UK campaign launched this morning in line with the show’s return, with a Yellowstone takeover of Radio X for the entire day.
The station has become Radio Y and the studio has been transformed into a Yellowstone themed Western ranch including props and branding from the show.
To kick off the day, co-branded social media content featuring Radio X Drivetime host and Yellowstone superfan Johnny Vaughan dressed as a cowboy commuting to work on horseback was teased from Johnny’s, Radio X’s and Paramount+’s social media accounts, ahead of his show.
This morning, Radio X Breakfast host Chris Moyles treated his audience to a special ‘Bucking Bronco’ segment to win a £2K cash prize, hosted live from the studio and streamed on Global Player.
The rest of the Radio X breakfast team (James, Dom and Pippa) took turns on the bronco while simultaneously recapping each Yellowstone series to date and listeners had to guess which presenter could stay on the longest as Chris commented on their performance.
One lucky winner received a £2K cash prize and is in with a chance of winning a trip to a ranch in Montana – the home of Yellowstone.
Yellowstone will be promoted on air every hour throughout the day and there will be further chances for listeners to enter the competition, culminating with Johnny Vaughan going full throttle with Radio Y in his drivetime show.
In addition, spoof ads riffing off the Yellowstone theme will play every hour.
The Radio X activity will be supported by on-air promotions on Heart and Capital throughout the two-week period, and national outdoor ads showcasing Johnny in his Yellowstone themed outfit will bring the partnership to life off air.
The partnership is the result of collaboration between Paramount+ UK, Global, Wavemaker and The Promotions Factory.
Anna Priest, Senior Vice President and Head of Paramount+ UK said: “We’re really proud of this collaboration with Global. Radio hosts are the original influencers and with Johnny, Chris and the Radio X team being genuine fans of Yellowstone, it’s an authentic and entertaining way to excite UK fans about the epic return.”
Katie Bowden, Managing Director of Commercial Audio at Global added: “We love working with advertisers to create innovative campaigns and clever partnerships with our radio brands. This is a great example of using the power of radio to engage audiences in a playful and fun way and Radio X is the perfect set for Yellowstone.”

Whistledown wins first Radio Times Trust in Audio Award for The Great Post Office Trial

Radio indie Whistledown has won the first Radio Times “Trust in Audio” Award for the BBC Radio 4 series The Great Post Office Trial.
They were up against Just One Thing with Michael Mosley (BBC Radio 4/Sounds), More or Less (BBC Radio 4/Sounds), The Rest Is History (Goalhanger Podcasts) and Why Do You Hate Me? with Marianna Spring (BBC Sounds).
The documentary series, presented by journalist Nick Wallis, was first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 2020, and has followed the scandal of the Post Office’s faulty Horizon IT system, and the impact it has had on the lives of hundreds of people running their own post offices.
Whistledown’s Managing Director David Prest said: “Back in 2020, no-one else seemed to be giving airtime to the Post Office story. Presenter Nick Wallis and producer Bob Nicholson were dogged in getting to the truth around the scandal and it has been a privilege to report on what so many wronged sub-postmasters and mistresses went through.”
The judges described the series as “beautifully made and paced, the way the story is told is compelling. As a listener you trust Nick Wallis to get to the bottom of the story, in the same way that you trust him with the lives of the people whose stories he is telling.”
This latest award comes just a few weeks after Whistledown won Podcast of the Year at the British Podcast Awards for the audio porn investigation, “Press Play Turn On” made for Audible U.K.
This year’s winners were announced in a special ceremony on Tuesday evening (5th November) at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in London, hosted by author and journalist Mariella Frostrup.
